Background & Expertise
Before launching Matter, Scott held positions on both the agency and corporate side, working with category-leading experts at Dorf & Stanton Communications and Shandwick in New York, then continuing his growth at Miller/Shandwick Technologies and FitzGerald Communications in Boston. Additionally, his time at Agfa Corporation was instrumental in his development as a communications professional and business leader, and he helped the company navigate the exciting but highly competitive digital imaging market.
Scott’s teams at Kodak brought the first consumer-level digital cameras to market, and he parlayed that experience at Agfa to promote high-profile and hugely exciting desktop devices such as flatbed scanners and multi-function devices, and a wide array of products that served as the pillar of the professional and consumer imaging categories, including digital printers and photo paper. As an agency-side professional, Scott led teams for high-profile B2B and B2C companies such as CVS/Health, where his team at Matter launched the company’s first social media profiles, and ADT, where his teams launched home security and early-generation smart home systems, and led communications for PGA-level sponsored events. He represented Tyco when the company had a fleet of vessels laying the first intercontinental fiber-optic lines around the globe, and Texas Instruments when the company competed with Intel, AMD, and TSMC and needed to reach the brightest and most capable engineers with the details of highly complex semiconductors. Among many other clients, Scott and his teams helped Lexar (and Micron following its acquisition) become a leader in the flash storage device category, including USB drives and flash memory for portable devices. (In that time, he often worked in an internal role at Lexar’s office in San Jose.)
As owner and CEO of Matter, Scott applied entrepreneurial thinking to the business and introduced an “integrated approach” well before it was common in the communications category. He drove Matter’s offering of robust video services and a full-service video studio with national studio connectivity before that was commonplace. (He celebrated when his video staff won an Emmy for their work!) He drove Matter’s growth through a series of acquisitions, including several agencies for specific reasons: one for a physical presence on the West Coast; another for category expertise. He acquired an SEO firm to bring credible search expertise into the agency, well before search became a common consideration for communications programs. He also championed the agency’s physical expansion, establishing Matter offices in Providence, Dallas, and Denver, among other choice markets.
Now at Matter, Scott contributes to the agency’s success in several ways. He remains primarily focused on his staff and regularly helps shape the structure and processes that support their professional growth. He regularly audits the agency’s approach to account work to maintain sought-after client results, and keeps tabs on the ever-evolving category to ensure Matter remains innovative. He also supports the agency President, Mandy Mladenoff, and two practice-area GMs, Anne Lines and Jeff Tahnk, in seeing their teams deliver top-notch service and results.
When he’s not working, Scott enjoys time with friends and family, especially his wife, Jenna. He’s often found on a soccer sideline, playing mediocre golf, or spending time on the water in New England or wherever he may be.
