Company Clambake- Why Not?

Inserting a bit of culture into the workplace

Having good fun with good food and colleagues is important, that is why here at Matter we try to insert as much fun into the work environment as possible. Especially as we grow as an agency, getting to know everyone on a personal level, outside the workplace helps our Matter family grow stronger.

Most recently, we have been incorporating some culture into our company bonding. Today after work, we are gathering at the Custom House Museum in Newburyport, birthplace of the US Coast Guard, for a clambake, bocce and beers. We decided to take advantage of some of the attributes of the beautiful Newburyport community, which we are so lucky to work in everyday. Company outings like this are creative in nature and allow us to stretch out beyond our office walls.

Fortunately for Matter employees, this isn’t our first work outing. Earlier in the summer, Matter provided the opportunity to take part in two culture-heavy outings. The first event was a water color painting class lead by Alan Bull, a well-established Newburyport-based artist. Those daring to show off their art skills gathered in the kitchen for the class. It was a very relaxing and pleasant exercise, regardless of how my painting turned out.

The second event was a field trip to the new and architecturally astounding wing of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. This was less of a hands-on event but was interesting and enjoyable for anyone who appreciates beautiful works of art. What I found to be most interesting (other than the fact I had no idea it was in Boston) is that the building is a 15th-century Venetian-style palace with three stories of galleries surrounding a sun and flower-filled courtyard.  The museum provided an unusual backdrop for the viewing of art to say the least.

I’m sure these are just the beginning of the culture-rich company outings that Matter has up it’s sleeve. If they are anything like what we’ve done so far, they are going to be a success. Inserting a bit of culture into the workplace never hurt anyone; in fact it brings us closer!
