Keeping up with the World Cup

By Matter

Let’s be honest. I know nothing about soccer, but this week I’m learning.

One of the things I love most about Matter is the way our whole office comes together to celebrate life. Not in a way that is disruptive to producing awesome results for our clients, but in ways that make us better, more collaborative teammates and help fuel the creativity. From monthly birthday parties to holiday celebrations, and everything in between, it’s great to work for a company that is so committed to fostering relationships between employees.

At the moment, it’s the World Cup. I’d like to say one year of youth soccer and a semester abroad in the UK provided me with some valuable background, but that would be false.

So, in an effort to become proficient enough to participate in world cup activities, I’ve found a few resources that I’ll be using to stay up to speed. So, for those of you who are like me, here are a few helpful sources for getting smart and staying informed about and interested in the World Cup, tailored to those of us who don’t “get it”:

Getting Started

  • Gawker: The Non-Soccer Fan’s Guide To The 2014 World Cup- Complete with everything from match streaming instruction to mnemonic devices to remember key players

Keeping Up

  • This morning, Mashable published an article entitled World Cup Day 2: What You Need to Know. I’m pretty sure a Pitbull didn’t score any goals, but this image is how I learned about Brazil’s self goal. Looking forward to these daily updates!

Staying interested

  • Then, of course, there’s Vogue’s 12 Soccer Players Who Are Reason Enough to Watch the World Cup for those times when you’re just overwhelmed and need a reason to keep watching.

Do you have any other helpful guides for the World Cup? How are you keeping up?
