CANTON, MA: LoJack, a maker of tracking and recovery systems for stolen cars, has appointed Matter Communications as its PR and social media AOR.

Matter participated in a competitive pitch against a number of firms, said agency CEO Scott Signore. He declined to comment further on the pitch process.

Matter is responsible for PR and media relations for LoJack. The company’s three target audiences are automotive dealers, law enforcement officials, and consumers, Signore said. A team of four to five agency staffers is handling the account, he added.

Signore declined to provide the budget. A LoJack representative was not available for further comment.

“As we expand our focus into providing more safety, security, and protection products for the connected car, we need an agency that shares our passion for our dealers and customers, and understands how to engage with, and convert, an even larger audience,” LoJack corporate communications manager Jeremy Warnick said, in a statement.

“This is an extension of us diversifying our portfolio to serve clients both in the technology and consumer categories,” Signore added.

LoJack operates in 28 states and more than 30 countries in North America, South America, Europe, and Africa. Its products include its flagship stolen vehicle recovery system, an early warning recovery system, and an offering for classic and specialty cars.

Headquartered in Newburyport, MA, Matter opened a Boston office earlier this year and also has locations in Providence, RI, and New York. It serves clients including Verizon Wireless, Lexar Media, and Harris Corporation.
