  • Media on the Move: September 2020

Media on the Move: September 2020

The rise in digital media has never been more evident. With news consumption already trending upward in recent years, the 2020 Reuters Institute Digital News Report shows the pandemic is very likely to accelerate long-term structural changes towards a more digital, mobile and platform-dominated media environment. The report highlights WhatsApp and Instagram as notable social platforms continuing their ascent, with other studies showing podcast awareness continuing to rise, as 75% of Americans now familiar with the medium.

During the second quarter, The New York Times Company reported its digital subscription and ad revenue exceeded print revenue for the first time ever – $185.5 million from digital, compared to $175.4 million from print. In addition, the Times is investing in audio-first journalism. “Times audiences are expecting us to meet them where they are, and one way we can connect with them is via their earbuds,” said managing producer for Opinion Audio at The New York Times, Paula Szuchman, about “Sway,” a new interview podcast hosted by Kara Swisher. This summer, The Times also announced plans to acquire Serial Productions (producer of the “Serial” podcast) as well as form an ongoing creative and strategic alliance with “This American Life” by Ira Glass.

In a similar move, Omnicom Media Group is investing in the promise of podcasting with plans to spend $20 million for ads in Spotify podcasts through the end of the year.

As PR and media professionals, we’re keeping a pulse on the industry’s digital shifts. Amidst the new work-from-home world, Matter has launched an At-Home Content Creation Guide to help clients create impactful content using smartphones, webcams, podcasts, animation and more – all possible from home. And as podcasts continue to gain traction, subscribers and ad dollars, we’ve helped clients launch their own platforms and shared tips for those looking to do it themselves. As the pandemic’s long-term impacts on media and news consumption evolve, we’ll continue to evolve with them, providing support and insights every step of the way.

BOSTON – September 1, 2020 – Matter Communications — a Brand Elevation Agency specializing in PR, creative services, digital marketing and strategy — has been named the agency of record (AOR) for PanTheryx, a biotechnology company that harnesses the nutritional power of bovine colostrum – nature’s superfood – to improve human and animal health globally. Colostrum, often called the “liquid gold” produced by all new mothers, is essential for early life health development, with research showing colostrum from cows (bovine) can provide incredible benefits throughout childhood and adulthood.

Matter has been spearheading a comprehensive, integrated marketing program to elevate awareness around colostrum as a supplement and its unrivaled health benefits, as well as PanTheryx’s first direct-to-consumer brand, Life’s First Naturals. This line of supplements is sourced start to finish with ColostrumOne, PanTheryx’s proprietary colostrum ingredient that contains a range of protective proteins, growth and immune factors, and prebiotics, which all work with the human body to support immune and digestive health and wellness.

“We needed more than traditional public relations to generate awareness for our new product and overall brand,” said Pam Cebulski, SVP Marketing and GM Corporate Strategy at PanTheryx. “Matter’s PR, design and website development professionals checked all the boxes to conquer our goal of kicking off an educational marketing program around colostrum and we’re excited to continue to grow the program together.”

The Matter team was also tasked with launching an informational microsite, Colostrum101.info, to inform the public about colostrum and how these supplements can support the immune system, digestive and skin health, and nutrition. The site will also serve as an educational tool to drive PanTheryx’s media relations and thought leadership program.

“PanTheryx is a uniquely versatile company that touches a variety of industries,” said Maria Brown, General Manager of Matter West. “Our agency’s diverse experiences across healthcare, consumer and technology arenas will continue to maximize the strategic opportunities we can provide to their team.”
